K-12 & Higher Education Flooring in Minneapolis, St. Paul & the Twin Cities
The school year ends in June. The new flooring needs to be installed, cured, and furniture-ready by mid-August. That is a 10-to-12-week window to tear out 30-year-old VCT in 40 classrooms, prep substrates that have not been touched since the building was constructed, install new resilient flooring, and turn the building back over to custodial staff — all on a bond-funded budget that was approved 18 months ago. ATR Floors has been delivering summer-window flooring installations for Twin Cities K-12 districts and universities for more than 25 years.

Summer-Window Education Flooring in Minneapolis, St. Paul & Nearby Communities
School scopes cover resilient and sport flooring, terrazzo preparation, corridor tile, and gymnasium substrates, sequenced around the academic calendar.
Summer-Window Scheduling
Crews staffed and materials staged before the last day of school. Floor complete, cured, and furniture-ready before the first day of the next year. Projects from single-classroom replacements to 50,000+ sq ft full-building renovations.
WBE Woman-Owned for Procurement
Public school districts, community colleges, and state university systems maintain supplier diversity targets. We provide the documentation procurement offices require, and we are experienced with bid, RFP, and PO processes.
Health & Safety for Students
Clean Slate Process eliminates concrete dust and toxic fumes during substrate prep. Low-VOC adhesives so the building is safe for students and staff from the first day of occupancy. No residual odor, no post-construction air quality concerns.
Phased Capital Project Planning
Bond-funded projects often span multiple budget years. We plan multi-year phased schedules with material and color continuity across phases, documenting existing conditions so Phase 2 picks up where Phase 1 ended.
Athletic Facility Specialty
Gymnasiums, weight rooms, and indoor tracks require sport-specific systems — rubber roll, sport tile, or synthetic surfaces — that meet ASTM F2772 (ball rebound) and ASTM F2569 (shock absorption).
Terrazzo Restoration in Legacy Buildings
Older schools with structurally sound but cosmetically worn terrazzo. We grind, hone, polish, and seal — extending service life by 15–20+ years at a fraction of replacement cost.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you complete a full-building flooring renovation in a single summer?
Yes, depending on square footage and substrate conditions. We routinely complete 20,000-50,000 sq ft summer-window renovations — tear-out, substrate restoration, and finished flooring — in 10-12 weeks. Larger scopes may require multi-summer phasing, which we plan collaboratively with the district facilities team.
Do you meet supplier diversity requirements for public school procurement?
Yes. ATR Floors is 100% woman-owned and meets WBE supplier diversity qualification standards. We provide the diversity documentation, insurance certificates, and bonding capacity information your procurement office requires.
How do you handle asbestos in old VCT and mastic?
We coordinate with your licensed abatement contractor for removal of asbestos-containing materials. After abatement is complete, we use the Clean Slate Process to chemically remove residual adhesive, profile the substrate, and prepare it for new flooring — compressing the timeline between abatement completion and new-floor installation.
Will there be odor or fumes when students return in the fall?
No. The Clean Slate Process uses biodegradable, low-odor chemistry, and we install with low-VOC adhesives. By the time students return, the flooring is fully cured and the building is free of residual odor.
Can you install gymnasium and athletic facility flooring?
Yes. We source and install sport-specific flooring systems — rubber roll, sport tile, and synthetic surfaces — that meet ASTM F2772 and ASTM F2569 performance requirements for athletic environments.
